Q: What kind of training does a handler need to have prior to receiving a service dog and how long does this training take?

A: Clients are scheduled for a two(2) week training session, during which time we help the person learn how to work as a team with their service dog. When possible, we will include training with other clients who are receiving service dogs with similar training. We try to expose clients to as many real life public settings as possible so that the client can get an idea of what it's like to work with their service dog in public. This may include, but not be limited to places such as grocery stores, the mall, public transportation if applicable to the client, or parks.
